The Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Dr. Ismail Serageldin, and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of  Nohoudh Endowment for Development Studies in the State of Kuwait, Dr. Ali Fahd Al-Zami’, signed, cooperation and strategic partnership agreement between the Library of Alexandria and the Nohoudh Endowment.

The partnership includes cooperation in the field of scientific research on Islamic thought, the first of which was the project of “Reissue of Islamic Heritage Books in the Thirteenth and Fourteenth Centuries Hijri Nineteenth and Twentieth Century CE” undertaken by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina.

This strategic partnership is concerned with issuing fifty new titles from the series “On Islamic Renaissance Thought” issued by the project, compiling and publishing introductory studies for the publications of the series “In Islamic Renaissance Thought” to introduce the flags of the Renaissance and conduct the necessary joint studies towards establishing the electronic encyclopedia of Islamic knowledge and Renaissance thought, and conducting The necessary studies to discuss identity issues in the Arab and Islamic world through holding joint workshops.

This cooperation and strategic partnership agreement between the Bibliotheca Alexandrina and the Endowment of Nohoudh comes from the belief of the two parties in the role of scientific research in monitoring the reality in the Islamic world and its importance for the development of Islamic and civilized thought, in evaluating this reality, and setting the desired development goals to get rid of the negatives, support the positives and contribute to the movement of Research aimed at development, modernization and problem-solving.

Nohoudh Endowment for Development Studies is a global endowment that aims to contribute to conducting research and studies related to global issues facing Muslims from different cultures and societies, with the aim of supporting the reform of Islamic thought as a platform for development efforts, and providing opportunities for students to complete the postgraduate studies in research programs related to the topics of studies. development related to Muslims and Muslim communities, developing and maintaining institutional links and long-term multicultural research, and working to develop teaching programs and partnerships aimed at transferring knowledge from internationally renowned research institutions.

The project “Re-issue of Islamic Heritage Books in the Thirteenth and Fourteenth Centuries Hijri, Nineteenth and Twentieth Century” aims to present an anthology of the heritage of modern Islamic thought, and introduce the most important writings of renewal and renaissance and its flags in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries Hijri – nineteenth and twentieth century.

The main reason for choosing this period is that there is an incorrect prevalent impression that the great contributions made by Muslim thinkers and scholars stopped at, and did not go beyond, ancient historical periods.

The project seeks to create an integrated and diverse library of these anthologies and make them available on paper and electronically via the Internet. It also aims to contribute to purifying the image of Islam from the distortions that are attached to it by translating these anthologies into English and French in an attempt to bridge the gap between the West and the Islamic world.

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina has issued 22 books in two groups in the series “On Islamic Renaissance Thought”.
